Vaccinations at Lanes Vets

Vaccinations are a vital part of preventative care, protecting your pet from serious, life-threatening infectious diseases and building immunity across the local pet community.

Vaccine immunity lasts between 1 to 3 years depending on the specific disease. To keep your pet fully protected, regular boosters are essential. Letting vaccinations lapse may require restarting the full initial course.

Dog Vaccinations

We vaccinate dogs against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and leptospirosis (4 strains), as well as kennel cough.

Puppy Primary Course

Our standard puppy regime follows a 3-visit policy spaced 2 weeks apart:

• 8 weeks: initial primary vaccination.
• 10 weeks: 2nd vaccination (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus). Immunity begins 1 week after.
• 12 weeks: final leptospirosis booster. Immunity begins 3 weeks later.
• 16+ weeks: optional additional parvovirus booster.

Kennel Cough and Annual Boosters

• Annual boosters: given yearly to maintain core protection.
• Kennel cough: administered annually via nasal drops or injection. If booking into a boarding kennel, complete this at least 3 weeks prior to stay.

Cat Vaccinations

We routinely vaccinate cats, including indoor pets, against cat flu, feline infectious enteritis, and feline leukaemia, as some viruses can travel into the home on clothing or footwear.

Kitten Primary Course

• 8 to 9 weeks: 1st vaccination.
• 12 weeks: 2nd vaccination (given 3 to 4 weeks after the first).
• Annual boosters: required yearly to maintain immunity.

Rabbit Vaccinations

Rabbits require protection against life-threatening conditions: myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD 1 and 2).

• Single vaccine: available from 7 weeks of age.
• Protection: delivers 12 months of full immunity.
• Annual boosters: required every 12 months.

Boosters and Travel

• Tailored annual boosters: following WSAVA guidelines, not all vaccine components are needed every year. Our vets tailor each annual booster to your pet’s specific needs.

• Lapsed vaccinations: if your pet has missed a booster, contact your local Lanes Vets surgery to discuss the best schedule to get them protected again.
