Investors in the Environment: Green.

Lanes Vets holds the Green award from Investors in the Environment, the highest tier of the national environmental accreditation scheme.

Why this matters to us.

The environment and our community have always been important to Lanes Vets. We were early adopters of solar panels at our Garstang branch in 2015, with Cottam, Garstang and Poulton branches joining the party more recently. There is a reduce, reuse and recycle policy throughout the branches. We engage with nature-friendly planting and EV charging at Garstang and Poulton, with plans to install at Cottam. Lanes Vets actively supports both local community and global charities and initiatives to provide tangible positive impacts for our staff, clients and the planet.

In 2025 we were proud to have achieved Green Level, the highest level of accreditation, from Investors in the Environment. We are constantly striving to improve upon our achievements with regular auditing and a green group dedicated to looking at new ways to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme designed to help organisations reduce their impact on the environment and get recognition for their progress. It has been running for over twelve years and has helped hundreds of organisations from all sectors and of all sizes to improve their environmental performance.

Our environmental work is led by a Green Team with at least one representative from each branch, coordinated by Janet Horsfield BVSc CertCHP DBR MRCVS.

Investors in the Environment Green 2025

Our Green Strategic Vision.

To lead the way in sustainable veterinary care by integrating environmentally responsible practices into every aspect of our companion animal and export services. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve natural resources, and promote animal and ecosystem health through innovation, education, and collaboration. By adopting green technologies, minimising waste, sourcing locally, and engaging with our community, we strive to create a resilient and eco-conscious practice that supports both the health of our patients and the planet.

What we are doing.

Solar energy on site

Solar generation across our larger sites contributes a meaningful share of our electricity consumption.

Bee-friendly practice

We follow bee-friendly practice standards on site, supporting pollinator habitats where we can.

Waste & recycling

Continually improving our waste and recycling streams across clinical, packaging and general waste.

Sustainability advice

Providing quality sustainability advice to clients on the choices that affect their pet's footprint.

Net Zero by 2030

Committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030, with annual progress monitored and reported.

Supplier engagement

Working with our suppliers to acknowledge and decrease the environmental impact of products and transportation.

Our environmental policy in full.

At Lanes Vets we strive to serve the needs of our patients, clients and the wider community by providing exceptional standards of veterinary care, advice and consultation to meet the highest levels of professional standards.

We acknowledge that our operations impact on the environment and have identified our key environmental aspects that contribute to our environmental and carbon footprint:

  • Consumption of electricity, gas, water, and other fuels
  • Waste generation
  • Transport emissions
  • Use of raw materials
  • Procured goods and services with their own environmental impact

Lanes Vets has been committed for several years to reducing our impact, with solar energy produced on site, bee-friendly practice standards, and by providing quality sustainability advice to clients.

Our environmental commitment can be demonstrated in our established objectives and goals below:

  • Compliance with all applicable standards, laws, requirements, regulations and public/customer expectations
  • Monitoring our key resource usage and implementing conservation techniques to achieve our environmental targets
  • Implementing a waste/recycling policy and improving waste systems already in place
  • Commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030
  • Minimising unsustainable transport through the development of a travel plan
  • Working with suppliers to ensure they acknowledge and decrease the environmental impact of their products and transportation
  • Working with clients to recognise and reduce the impact of their animals while maintaining and improving health and welfare
  • Publishing and distribution of an annual sustainability report

We plan to review this policy regularly and make changes whenever there are improvements or developments to make. We will convey this policy to all our employees through internal messaging.

We have a Green Team within the practice with at least one representative from each branch who communicate via WhatsApp to improve the environmental credentials of day-to-day working. The Green Team is coordinated by Janet Horsfield BVSc CertCHP DBR MRCVS.
